| Summary, etc. | L’objectif de cet article est de réfléchir à l’évolution des relations entre reporters et entreprises de presse au Japon, en partant de l’analyse de la pratique de signature des articles dans deux grands quotidiens nationaux. Mêlant observations, entretiens et exploitation d’archives, l’analyse montre d’abord en quoi la généralisation tardive de cette pratique, au tournant des années 1990 et 2000, a été présentée à l’époque comme une nouvelle stratégie éditoriale, faisant aussi écho à l’adoption de nouvelles normes managériales par les entreprises. Les difficultés d’adaptation de certains reporters à cette forme d’individualisation du travail font ressortir des tensions avec la logique d’entreprise forte qui continue de structurer le journalisme japonais. Enfin, un regard sur l’utilisation de la signature par des journalistes ayant fait l’expérience de la mobilité permet de constater une diversification des logiques de carrière dans un contexte de futur incertain pour la presse écrite traditionnelle. |

| Summary, etc. | Byline or perish?The aim of this paper is to analyse the changing relationship between press writers and their companies in Japan by focusing on the practice of article byline in two national newspapers. Using ethnographic observations, interviews and archive data analysis, we first show why the gradual generalization of this practice from the 1990s has been presented as a new editorial strategy and how it is also linked to the adoption of new managerial standards by news organizations. The difficulties faced by some reporters in adapting to this new individualization of work also suggest increased tensions with the strong industrial logic, which continues to structure Japanese journalism. Last, the use of byline by journalists who have experienced external mobility during their careers shows the diversification of career trends in a context of uncertain future for traditional print-based medias. |
