| Summary, etc. | Progressivement reconnus par les sociologues comme de véritables supports de la socialisation, les livres pour enfants ont jusqu’à présent donné lieu à des recherches essentiellement attentives à leur contenu textuel et iconographique. Ces travaux, reposant sur des analyses de contenu, postulent pour la plupart une intériorisation par les enfants des normes transmises par la littérature. La recherche sur laquelle s’appuie cet article relève pour sa part de la volonté d’interroger le caractère « mécanique » de cette transmission en se concentrant sur le point de vue de jeunes lecteurs et lectrices âgés de 5 ans à 8 ans. Au-delà des implications théoriques de cette démarche, il sera ici question des choix méthodologiques opérés afin de réaliser une enquête de réception auprès d’enfants. Par l’explicitation d’un protocole expérimental utilisé sur le terrain ainsi que des résultats produits, cet article propose un retour réflexif faisant apparaître tant les apports de cette méthodologie que les précautions nécessaires à sa mise en œuvre. |

| Summary, etc. | “Because We Didn’t Need a Dad in This Story!”Although sociologists have now acknowledged children’s books as fully fledged means of socialization, the latter have so far given rise to research focusing mainly on their textual and iconographic content. Most of these studies, based on analyses of content, postulate the internalization by children of the norms conveyed in the literature. The research upon which the present article is based stems from the wish to question the mechanical nature of such a transmission by focusing on the point of view of young readers aged 5 to 8 years. Beyond the theoretical implications of this approach, we will address here the methodological choices made to conduct a reception survey among children. Making explicit the experimental protocol used on the field as well as the results it produced, we provide a reflective feedback that sheds light on the benefits of our methodology, as well as on the precautions that are necessary for its implementation. |
