Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Archaic Ideal Formations My reading of Freud first led me to recognize that the theory of the ideal, which he elaborated over two decades, ends with the idea of a sole agent, the superego, which reunites, in some way, all the various identificatory poles. The notions of purifiedpleasureego, of ideal ego, of ego ideal, of œdipal superego and of cultural superego are at once distinct and confusedly attached, through the grandiose figure of the father. Guided by a brief reading of the authors writing after Freud, I was driven to momentarily abandon this identification approach and to turn to meta-psychology for answers to the question of ideal formations. This led me to formulate a hypothesis that held that, the more we return to original time, the more we remark a real topographical and dynamic symmetry between the archaic superego and the precocious ego ideal, a symmetry that we have termed original bipolarity constituted by ‘an ideal of counter-cathexis’and by ‘an ideal of cathexis.’Finally, obliged to question the economic bases of ideal formations, I was led to form a second hypothesis according to which an ‘ideal of death’ and an ‘ideal of life’ would come to impose themselves as a backdrop in the heart of Freudian ideal formations, as part of a dialectic system of inter-identificatory dynamics.
