| Summary, etc. | L’œuvre d’art pour les nazis devait refléter la gestalt du peuple allemand. Il fallait rompre avec le Dieu invisible des juifs pour inscrire toute la réalité politique dans l’art nazi, qui fournissait une exhaustivité du visible. La quête de la pureté relève de la haine de l’hétérogène que tout homme porte en soi et dont le juif a été le paradigme. La Shoah a été le crime de la spiritualité de l’homme. Pour autant ceux qui sont morts à Auschwitz ne sont pas morts comme hommes mais bien comme juifs. L’échec des Lumières fut somme toute de faire du semblable, l’identique. |

| Summary, etc. | Good as a Notion of Evil For the Nazis, works of art had to reflect the gestalt of the German people. The aim of this was breaking away from the invisible God of the Jews to give Nazi art its full political reality and its capacity to fully show the visible sphere. This quest for purity springs from the hatred of the heterogeneous that each man or woman bears within them, the paradigm of this being, for Nazi Germany, the Jews. The Holocaust was, then, man’s spiritual crime, but the people who died at Auschwitz did not die as men but as Jews. The failure of the Enlightenment can thus be defined as its making equality and similarity the rule. |
