520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc.
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc. Light Brought into the Darkness. Robert Antelme and Jean Améry, Two Journeys In this article the author looks at two major works from the field of concentration camp literature to study how the feeling of belonging to humankind can be maintained in extreme conditions. We also look at the particularities of genocide of which the Holocaust is a paradigm and the difference between this and other types of persecution. The hypothesis presented is that by destroying the identification pact that bonds the Subject with the rest of humankind, genocide totally deprives the subject of any link with the group, a factor that is essential in dealing with negative feelings and shame. Without the support of the group, the attempts made to think through negative feelings become a process of self-destruction for the subject, which lead to dis-objectalisation and even to suicide.
