Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | On the Transmission of Clinical Exprerience... and its Hazards In order to think about the efficiency of transmission in clinical matters, one is obliged to analyse the subjective position of the person transmitting and the effectiveness of the modes he uses, that is to say speech and writing. Two styles, those of Freud and Lacan, are herein examined and compared. Freud transmitted his experience of the unconscious not only as a patient and an analyst, but also from the position of a master. Lacan did the same, but with the remarkable difference that in his Séminaire he gave free rein to “hysterical discourse”. Both insisted that their speech and their writing be considered as scientific, the ideal of their age. Both styles prove that the clinical experience cannot be entirely transmitted, because the discourse about the unconscious must necessarily use metaphor. Signalling this limit could open the way to a study of the subjective structures that find their expression through speech and writing. |
