520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Freud, Modern Art and the ‘Wretched Naked Cannibals’- an Innovative Perspective on the Destiny of Drives. Does the ‘Modernism’ of psychoanalysis, in that it involves both therapeutic and epistemic aspects, depend, in part or in whole, on the supposedly archaic or primitive animic basis defined by the discipline as being its own principal subject of study? In the light of psychoanalysis’ epistemic horizons, was the articulation between archaic and modern simply geared to Freud’s liking? A critical exploration of Freud’s attitudes to ‘Modern’art, ‘Classical’art and ‘Primitive’arts sheds light both on the importance of the paradigm of the arts in the constitution of the epistemic identity of psychoanalysis. It allows us to read afresh the interaction between nature and culture, or the phenomenon of sublimation as defined by the father of psychoanalysis himself. |
