| Summary, etc. | La vie et les enseignements de Ramakrishna (1836-1886), saint bengali hindou de tradition tantrique, ont recemment fait l’objet de vives controverses relatives notamment aux rapports entre expérience mystique et (homo)sexualité ainsi qu’entre enseignements traditionnels et biographie individuelle. Apres une rapide évocation du dossier de ce debat, on propose ici l’éclairage de quelques valeurs, symboles et pratiques de la tradition hindoue: unité et multiplicité du Divin, “Jeu” de la Divinité dans le monde, plasticité des images et des rôles assumés dans l’expérience mystique et le travail spirituel. |

| Summary, etc. | The Case of Ramakrishna in the Light of Hindu Tradition. The life and teaching of Ramakrishna (1836-1886), a Bengali Hindu Saint from tantric tradition, has recently been the subject of lively debate concerning the relationship between mystical experience and (homo)sexuality and that between traditional teaching and personal biography. After a brief review of the controversy, this article will attempt to draw light from a number of values, symbols and practices central to Hindu tradition – the unity and multiplicity of the Divine, the “Role” the Divinity plays in the world, the plasticity of images and roles adopted in mystic experience and spiritual progress. |
