Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Possible Representations of Original Sin. This article takes the notion of ‘original sin’as its starting point, as defined in popular mode derived from Catholic tradition, and then goes on to offer a rereading of the Book of Genesis. This allows us to explore later contributions from Saul of Tarsus and Augustine of Hippo and the advent of theological doctrine. ‘Original sin’ is seen by them to be a transgression of divine law and forbidden access to the tree of knowledge of Good and Evil which constitutes the revelation of human sexuality. Interpretations resulting from the notion of ‘original sin’ concern humans and their Narcissism, ambitiously equal with God’s, but also the desire for knowledge and the incorporation of this into a discourse which takes into account the question of the feminine. Theology and psychoanalysis come together here in a pairing which embodies the stakes of our modern age. |
