It would be naïve to think that the analyst listens to the analysand in a ‘purified’or ‘unshackled’manner, free from all exterior influence. For the analyst’s greatest quality in listening lies in the capacity to identify and accept his or her own identifications with the analysand, identifications ranging from the most lofty cultural affinities to the least elaborated narcissistic identifications. |
