520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Propaganda and Psychoanalysis. We will start by retracing the etymological origins of the word ‘propaganda’ in Chinese and Western culture before going on to describe the bonds linking fantasies and propaganda. A number of psychoanalytical notions will be brought into play (unconscious fantasies, projective identification, regression), in our discussion of the ways in which propaganda is linked to a desire to return to an infantile position in those to whom it is addressed. This leads to a description of the omnipotent, idealised object on the group level. The author takes the example of a certain number of special nutritional diets, religious cults and ‘autobiographical’ impostors to support his discussion and ends with a consideration of the changes wrought by the ‘internet phenomenon’ on the use of propaganda. |
