| Summary, etc. | La réception de la psychanalyse et des travaux de Freud, dans les années 1885-1945 auxquelles Alain de Mijolla a consacré son ouvrage, Freud et la France, est marquée par une grande ambivalence et un accueil mitigé dans le monde médical et dans la presse. Cette révolution que représentent la nouvelle approche de la sexualité et l’invention de la psychanalyse, provoque de multiples réticences et dérange « l’esprit latin » qui se méfie d’une démarche jugée pansexualiste, peu rationnelle et aventureuse. Même si certains intellectuels montrent une réelle curiosité, l’incompréhension et la frilosité l’emportent souvent dans le milieu médical, parfois relayées par des réactions de haine dans le contexte des deux guerres mondiales et de l’anti-germanisme. |

| Summary, etc. | The Reception of Freud’s Work in France during the First Half of the Twentieth Century. Freudianism Put to the Test by the Latin Spirit. The reception reserved for psychoanalysis and the work of Freud during the 1885-1945 period are the subject of Alain de Mijolla’s study Freud et la France and were clearly ambivalent, if not unenthusiastic, on the part of medical circles and the press. Freud’s revolutionary new approach to sexuality and the invention of psychoanalysis triggered great reticence and was not welcomed by the ‘Latin spirit’ which proved itself mistrustful of this pansexual, adventuresome and seemingly irrational approach. Despite the fact that a number of intellectuals exhibited genuine curiosity for these new ideas, incomprehension and disinclination were the best words to describe their reception in medical circles, and this was sometimes expressed with ill-disguised contempt within the framework of the two world wars and the anti-German sentiment which accompanied them. |
