520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | The Surrealist Manifesto and its Relation with the Unconscious. By using automatic writing techniques, the Surrealists aimed to bear witness to a ‘sur-real’ dimension, in direct relationship with the unconscious as defined by Freud. Breton had read Freud’s writings but there was a blatant, even historic level of misunderstanding between the two men. However, when one examines the psychic processes at work during literary creation, it becomes clear that this misunderstanding was indeed just that, as Surrealism and the Freudian unconscious have much in common. |
