| Summary, etc. | The combination of non and mais has produced two distinct pragmatic markers in contemporary French. They both mark a nuance of enunciative contrast.The interjection Non mais !1 is a prosodic and functional unit with an expressive function. Non mais! is a marker of impolite disagreement. It is always used in conflictual, polemic contexts. It reacts to the addressee’s comments or behaviour in order to disagree with them. The marker thus expresses the speaker’s indignation or incredulity. Non mais! actually rejects the speaker’s claim to have the right to act in a certain way or say certain things. This leads to the speaker’s very person being called into question.Non mais2 also introduces an enunciative contrast, but this marker does not enter into polemical contexts like interjective non mais! Non mais2 is used to change the subject while providing at the same time a transition. |

Ils marquent tous les deux une opposition de type énonciatif.L’interjection Non mais !1 est une unité prosodique et fonctionnelle qui a une fonction expressive. Non mais ! est un marqueur de désaccord impoli. Il entre toujours dans des contextes conflictuels, polémiques. Il enchaîne sur les propos ou sur le comportement de l’allocutaire pour s’y opposer. Le marqueur traduit ainsi l’indignation ou l’incrédulité du locuteur. Non mais ! s’oppose en fait à la prétention qu’a l’allocutaire d’avoir le droit d’agir d’une certaine façon ou de tenir certains propos. Cela débouche sur une mise en question de la personne même de l’allocutaire.Non mais2 introduit également une opposition de type énonciatif, mais il n’entre pas dans des contextes polémiques comme l’interjection non mais ! Non mais2 est une articulation de la conversation, il sert à changer de sujet tout en ménageant une transition. |
