| Summary, etc. | L’œuvre de Céline est un analyseur de « l’immonde interne » pluriel, contrasté et diversifié. Freud lit Céline sur les conseils de Marie Bonaparte mais sans doute rebuté par les difficultés de la langue et les tournures spécifiques du style célinien Freud ne reconnaît pas « l’impatience amoureuse pour le néant » qui traverse Voyage au bout de la nuit. Inversement Céline a lu Freud. Dans sa correspondance privée, jusqu’à la fin de sa vie, il fait directement référence à Freud. Mais s’il reconnaît puiser quelque chose dans la psychanalyse, c’est d’abord comme romancier. Il retrouve une partie de son monde romanesque dans la psychanalyse d’après 1920. On ne peut pas « suivre » Céline comme on « suit » Freud mais on ne peut pas, non plus, ne pas l’entendre. Il est nécessaire d’ouvrir la boîte de pandore célinienne avec les outils de l’analyse. En ce sens la psychanalyse poursuit son travail de mise en évidence de processus psychiques à peu près inaccessibles autrement. Chez Céline l’affect occupe une place centrale et c’est précisément cette place qu’il est nécessaire d’interroger. C’est son caractère débordant et son omniprésence qui font symptômes. L’hypothèse de l’auteur est que Céline s’exprime au lieu même d’une « mésorganisation » de l’affect et contraint le lecteur à explorer cette zone. Céline pose problème parce qu’il active chez le lecteur la nécessité de sortir de la confusion des « émotions crues ». Son racisme radical est la caricature de ce que tout être humain doit réaliser : séparer le moi du non moi, construire l’inconscient comme réserve de l’intolérable, émerger de la douleur de la confusion par la différenciation. |

| Summary, etc. | Céline, the Analyst and the ‘World of Internal Filth.’ The works of Céline function as an analytical paradigm of the ‘world of internal filth’ in all the plurality of its diverse contrasts. Freud first read Céline on the advice of Marie Bonaparte, but was doubtless put off by the difficulty of the language and complex turns of phrase typical of Céline’s style. Freud did not recognise the sense of ‘amorous impatience for nothingness’ pervading Voyage au Bout de la Nuit. On the other hand, however, Céline did read Freud, to whose work he makes direct reference in his private correspondence until the very end of his life. Yet it is primarily as a novelist that he acknowledges the influence of psychoanalysis, identifying common ground between the world of his novels and psychoanalysis after 1920. One cannot ‘follow’ Céline as one ‘follows’ Freud, but nor may one remain deaf to what he is saying. One must open the Pandora’s box of Céline’s world with the tools of analysis with psychoanalysis thereby pursuing its task of shedding light on psychic processes which would otherwise remain inaccessible. In Céline’s writing, affects play a central role and it is precisely this role that psychoanalysis questions. His unbridled temperament and omnipresence function as symptoms. This article argues that Céline expresses himself through a ‘mis-organisation’ of affects, thereby obliging the reader to explore this zone. Céline challenges the reader in that he triggers an imperative desire to break free from the confusion of ‘raw emotion.’ His radical racism is a caricature of what all human beings must achieve – separating the ego from the non-ego, constructing the unconscious as a reserve for the unbearable and emerging from the suffering of confusion through differentiation. |
