L’interface Facebook offre à l’adolescent la possibilité de devenir héros le temps d’un instant aux yeux de la communauté virtuelle dans une tentative d’éloigner l’inconciliable de la mort. Cet éloignement est supporté par la création d’un double à l’écran qui laisse émerger une figure idéalisée du Moi relayée par la communauté virtuelle. |

Virtualescence is a process through which mental transformations occur in teenagers with respect to their relationship with virtual spaces, thereby playing a key role in their narcissistic quest. As an interface, Facebook provides teenagers with the possibility of becoming a hero in the eyes of his or her virtual community for a fleeting instant, as part of a desire to ward off the irreconcilable notion of death. This desire is sustained by the creation of a screen double embodying an idealised Ego disseminated by the virtual community. |
