520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | In addition to the question of its legitimate role in Freudian metapsychology, the ‘knowledge drive’ forefronts the difficulty in Freud’s early works of articulating the quest for pleasure with what lies beyond it, namely the death drive. Through her analysis of the epistemophiliac drive, Melanie Klein sheds light on the ambiguity of the knowledge drive and offers an exit from the dead end in which Freud had seemingly found himself. Despite the fact that both Freud and Klein went on to abandon the notion of the epistemophiliac drive, might we argue that it is indeed at work within the framework of transference and does it allow us to resituate the path towards knowledge in the cure from the standpoint of the position of the analyst and his or her relation with knowing? |
