| Summary, etc. | Freud a entretenu une relation paradoxale avec ce matériau fondateur que furent pour lui les images : friand de celles-ci dont il fera bon usage sur un mode à la fois ludique et savant, il se montrera néanmoins réticent à ce qui en deviendra l’art — le cinéma — , en particulier dans sa prétention à pouvoir rendre compte de sa découverte, justifiant d’emblée sa méfiance par l’impossibilité pour ce dernier de rendre compte plastiquement des « abstractions » de la psychanalyse. Ce refus du savant, pour fondé qu’il puisse être, n’en recouvre pas moins aussi un mobile profond : la dimension traumatique qu’a pu prendre pour lui le défilé des images lors du voyage de l’exil. |

| Summary, etc. | Freud entertained a paradoxical relationship with the founding material of images - he enjoyed some and used them in both a playful and erudite manner, but was far more reticent when it came to using them aesthetically in the form of cinema. More particularly, he was reluctant to accept cinema’s pretentious desire to depict his own discovery, and was expressly doubtful of the possibility for cinema to portray the ‘abstractions’ of psychoanalysis in plastic form. This scholarly refusal, however seemingly justified, also hides a deeper cause - the trauma Freud himself endured due to the images to which he bore witness during his journey into exile. |
