| Summary, etc. | Il est souvent rapporté que Freud n’aimait pas la musique, chose un peu extraordinaire dans une Vienne saturée de musique, avec Schönberg qui habitait à moins de cent mètres de la Berggasse. Les membres de la nouvelle Société écrivirent sur la musique, mais toujours en lien avec les livrets des opéras ou les poèmes devenus Lieder. Theodor Reik, « simili Freud », fut le seul à faire un pas de côté en alliant psychanalyse et musique et en la faisant jouer « en tant que telle » dans les associations de l’analyste. Il appliqua anthropologiquement les résultats de la psychanalyse au kol nidrei qui ouvre le jour de Kippour et au chofar qui le clôture. C’est au geste et au style des Écrits sur la musique de Reik que je veux accorder une place. |

| Summary, etc. | It is often reported that Freud did not have much of a taste for music, an assertion all the more extraordinary given that the Vienna of his day was at the heart of musical activity, with Schönberg living only about 150 yards away from the Berggasse. The members of the new Society did write about music, but only in relation to opera libretti or poems which had been set to music as Lieder. Theodor Reik, ‘simili Freud’, went against the grain, bringing psychoanalysis and music together ‘as such’ in the analyst’s associations. He applied the results of psychoanalysis with anthropological method to the kol nidrei which opens the day of Yom Kippur and to the Shofar which closes it. I wish to accord a place of importance to Reik’s gesture in doing this and to the style of his writing in The Haunting Melody, Psychoanalytic Experiences in Life and Music. |
