Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | How do reputed intensive organizational and technological changes impact careers longevity in the information technology (IT) field? A general focus on the future of the IT job market dodges the question. At the opposite, this paper is based on a study starting from comprehensive interviews with more than 40 years old IT engineers, broadened with investigations on their employment system and its representatives in France. The very notion of professional adaptability is at stake. Two usual but opposite ways of its recognition are examined. The first one relies on an atypical executive workforce management; its potential selective effects on the basis of age have been strengthened by the growing subordination of recruiting to the software engineering consulting firms standards. The second one results from the consistency of experiential learning as revealed by the patterns of occupational paths over 40. |
