| Summary, etc. | Céline, écrivain et antisémite, fait l’objet de polémiques nombreuses et répétées. Je soutiendrai qu’il offre le cas d’un fanatique revendiqué et pensé comme tel, et qu’il permet de douter de la possibilité de l’éduquer ou de le rééduquer. La lecture des trois “pamphlets”, celle des lettres publiées dans la presse sous l’Occupation et celle des entretiens donnés dans l’après-guerre permettent de reconstituer sa doctrine fanatique. Elle consiste en une conception meurtrière animée par l’“esprit mangouste”, dont procèdent une compréhension de l’histoire comme “guerre des races” et une théorisation du style comme “petite musique” exprimant le fonds biologique de l’être. Son fanatisme s’avère ainsi non une “folie”, mais une élaboration strictement rationnelle, qui repose sur un principe un et total, lui-même soustrait à toute réflexion critique et donc à toute éducation. Céline, dans cette partie de son œuvre et dans ses trois derniers romans, a ainsi produit un système littéraire d’éducation au fanatisme dont sa propre personne est le paradigme. |

| Summary, etc. | Céline, writer and anti-Semite, has been the subject of numerous and repeated controversies. I will argue that he offers a case of self claimed fanatic and that he raises doubts about the possibility of educating or re-educating him. Reading the three “pamphlets”, the letters published in the press under the Occupation and the interviews given in the post-war period allows us to reconstruct his fanatic doctrine. It consists of a murderous conception animated by the “mongoose spirit”. It implies an understanding of history as a “race war” and a theorization of style as a “little music” expressing the biological root of being. Thus his fanaticism turns out to be not “insanity”, but a strictly rational elaboration, which is based on one and single principle that is itself exempt from all critical reflection, and therefore escapes the power of education. Céline, in this part of his work and in his last three novels, has thus produced a literary system of education for fanaticism where he, himself, is the paradigm. |
