Summary, etc. | Cet article étudie le commerce des produits électroniques grand public, principalement les téléphones mobiles et leurs divers accessoires, sur un lieu marchand : le marché Tecno dans l’agglomération abidjanaise (Côte d’Ivoire). Alors que ces types de commerces sont généralement appréhendés selon une approche de la mondialisation par le bas, le cadre analytique que nous proposons les envisage dans la perspective d’une co-construction : c’est-à-dire à la fois comme produits des capacités d’initiatives des acteurs populaires mais aussi comme des manifestations locales de stratégies déployées par les firmes globales de la téléphonie qui ont compris l’intérêt qu’elles ont à investir et exploiter ces espaces où s’approvisionne la majeure partie de la population urbaine. L’intervention directe et pour le moins originale d’une firme globale – Samsung – sur le marché Tecno est ainsi analysée à la lumière de son articulation aux logiques plurielles d’acteurs populaires. Cet article montre ainsi une convergence d’intérêt entre acteurs globaux et acteurs populaires autour d’un objectif commun : vendre au plus grand nombre. |

Summary, etc. | This paper studies the business of electronic devices, mainly mobile phones and their various accessories, in an urban marketplace: the Tecno market in Abidjan metropolitan area. While these kinds of businesses are generally understood from a globalization from below approach, we provide an analytical framework looking at them from a co-construction perspective: i.e., both as products of grassroots actors’ capacities of initiative and as local manifestations of strategies deployed by global mobile firms that have understood their interest in investing and exploiting these spaces, where most of the urban population is supplied. The direct and original intervention of a global firm–Samsung–on the Tecno market is thus analyzed in the light of its articulation with plural rationales of grassroots actors. This paper shows the convergence of interests between global actors and grassroots actors around a common objective: sell to the greatest number. |
