Toutefois, elles se heurtent à une résistance bien plus organisée qu'elles ne l'avaient anticipée et s'enferment dans une guerre d'usure. À travers la vision des sous-officiers et des soldats qui souffrent de l'isolement, de la maladie et de l'abandon, cet article entend démontrer que la bataille de Tourane fut une défaite coloniale. |

| Summary, etc. | As they landed on the shores of Tourane bay in September 1858, French and Spanish troops sent to Cochinchina hoped they would easily dominate the empire of Việt Nam. However, they faced a resistance far more organized than they had expected, and they were shackled into a war of attrition. Through the point of view of petty officers and soldiers who suffered from isolation, diseases and abandonment, this paper attempts to show that the siege of Tourane was a colonial defeat. |
