| Summary, etc. | Cet article analyse la représentation des masculinités au retour de la Grande Guerre dans deux séries télévisées britanniques contemporaines : Peaky Blinders (saisons 1 à 3) et Downton Abbey (saisons 2 et 3). Nous entendons montrer comment deux historiographies, deux visions de la Guerre et des bouleversements sociaux qu’elle a entraînés au Royaume-Uni sont conçues et diffusées par ces séries. L’angle des représentations de la masculinité permet de voir comment la virilité et les idéaux martiaux furent reconfigurés par le conflit mais également d’aborder le phénomène de sortie de guerre et la transmission de la violence du front vers les relations domestiques. Enfin, les deux séries développent les évolutions de la paternité et la représentation de la famille permet d’évoquer la totalité du monde social et la domination patriarcale qui y règne. |

| Summary, etc. | This article seeks to analyse the representations of masculinities in the aftermath of the Great War as foregrounded in two recent British TV series : Peaky Blinders (seasons 1 to 3) and Downton Abbey (seasons 1 and 2). Broadcast around the centenary of the Great War and influenced by different historiographical trends, these series convey competing visions of the war and of the social transformations that followed. By focusing on the representations of male characters we wish to examine how manliness and warlike stereotypes were reconfigured by the conflict and argue that, in the aftermath of the war, violence shifted away from the frontline and thrived at home. Lastly, both series provide an insight into the evolutions of fatherhood and use the family as a way to evoke the whole of British society and the patriarchal system in place. |
