| Summary, etc. | Cet article aborde l’histoire du CD-Rom en France en le replaçant dans la famille des disques optiques qui se développent dans les années 1980-1990, dans la convergence entre médias et informatique, et souligne son rôle de chaînon manquant dans l’histoire du numérique, au moment où se joue aussi la transition entre Minitel et Web. Si le CD-Rom a bénéficié d’un moindre intérêt historiographique, son caractère multimédia, les nouvelles formes d’écritures numériques qu’il induit ou encore les enjeux que son usage soulève (piratage, droit d’auteur, etc.) rappellent sa place dans une histoire qui va au-delà du simple stockage d’informations et de données. Il éclaire aussi l’informatisation et la numérisation des pratiques tant individuelles que professionnelles en France. |

| Summary, etc. | This article looks back at the history of the CD-ROM in France by replacing it in the context of the development of optical disks in the 1980s-1990s. It enlightens the convergence between media and information technology and underlines its role as a missing link in the history of the digital, at a time of transition from Minitel to the Web. The CD-Rom has received less historiographical interest than other technological artefacts. Its multimedia character, the new forms of digital writing it induces, and the issues its use raised (piracy, copyright, etc.) remind us that the CD-Rom occupies a place in a history that goes beyond data and information storage. It also sheds light on the computerization and digitalization of both individual and professional practices in France. |
