520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. |
520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC. | |
Summary, etc. | Dogs are known as man’s best friends and are ubiquitous in cultural productions for children. Walt Disney in particular, has animated more than a hundred of our companions. We will then study canine representations in those movies by answering the following question : which representation of our relationship to dogs is given to the youngest in such movies ? Our chronological analysis shows a two-step relationship, with a strong anthropomorphism inducing a negation of dogs’ animal identity, and then a progression towards the recognition of our dogs’ individuality. As cinema is both a witness and an actor of the evolution of our relation to animals, companion dogs represented in the studied movies therefore reflect the gradual, and sometimes hesitant, diffusion of such a new relationship. |
