| Summary, etc. | L’oiseau mazouté fait partie des figures classiques de la marée noire. Affiché au moment de la catastrophe, il finit cependant par être effacé. Son émergence a été lente. Constaté dans les années 1920, victime de pollution chronique, il ne s’impose qu’avec le naufrage de l’Amoco Cadiz en 1978 et après l’épisode du Torrey Canyon en 1967. L’image et l’expression d’« oiseau mazouté » ont donc fini par s’imposer, tout en étant porteur d’un discours qui diffère selon les périodes. Ainsi il devient tour à tour la victime du progrès, d’une société de consommation, d’une manipulation, etc. |

| Summary, etc. | The oiled bird is considered as a classical image of an oil slick. Posted at the time of the disaster, it is sooner or later forgotten. Its emergence has been slow. Noticed in the 1920’s, victim of chronic pollution, the oiled bird only establishes itself with the accident of the Amoco Cadiz in 1978 and after the Torrey’s Canyon shipwreck in 1967. The image and the expression of “oiled bird” eventually became common, but with different meanings over time. Indeed, it has successively been the victim of progress, of consumer society, of manipulation, etc. |
