| Summary, etc. | Cet article reconstitue les trajectoires socio-professionnelles d’une dizaine de journalistes francophones exerçant en Hollande dans les années 1680-1720, afin de mettre en lumière l’apparition, dès la fin du xviie siècle, de véritables professionnels de l’actualité politique dont le métier et la rétribution reposent sur la seule pratique de l’écriture et de la publication de l’information politique. En analysant les innovations et les mécanismes sociaux, économiques, éditoriaux, politiques et géopolitiques qui concourent à cette professionnalisation, cette étude montre comment la réussite de ces individus repose sur un positionnement singulier et des stratégies de distinction au sein du marché éditorial, notamment l’élaboration d’un journalisme politique d’un type nouveau. Conscients de la nouveauté de leurs pratiques médiatiques, ils emploient ainsi progressivement le qualificatif de « journaliste » pour se désigner. |

| Summary, etc. | This article traces the socio-professional trajectories of ten French-speaking journalists working in Holland in the years 1680-1720, to highlight the appearance, from the end of the 17th century, of true political information professionals: their activity and their remuneration are based solely on writing and publishing political news. By analysing the innovations and the social, economic, editorial, political, and geopolitical mechanisms that contribute to this professionalisation, this study shows how the success of these individuals is based on a singular positioning and strategies of distinction within the editorial market, notably the development of a new type of political journalism. Aware of the novelty of their media practices, they gradually use the term of “journaliste” to designate themselves. |
