| Summary, etc. | Malgré l’existence d’une pensée navale anglaise à l’époque d’Elisabeth I˚, la réflexion stratégique maritime n’apparaît que très tard en Angleterre, dans les années 1880, avec les frères Colomb et surtout Julian Corbett. C’est pourquoi, tout en s’intéressant à l’histoire navale de notre meilleur ennemi, Hervé Coutau-Bégarie n’a accordé qu’une place réduite à la pensée navale anglaise. Il n’en a pas moins, à la suite de l’amiral Castex, mais en allant plus loin que celui-ci, accordé une place considérable à Corbett dont il a enfin publié Some Principles of Maritime Strategy et à l’ambassadeur James Cable pour son travail de premier plan consacré à la diplomatie navale. Il a également analysé les reculs de la puissance navale britannique postérieurs à la seconde guerre mondiale, et montré comment la Royal Navy s’insère depuis dans un monde nouveau par rapport à son histoire pluriséculaire. |

Therefore, it is the reason why Hervé Coutau-Bégarie has made in his works only a small place to the british naval thought, in spite of his great interest for the naval history of Great Britain. Nonetheless, in the continuation of the amiral Raoul Castex, but going further than Castex, he has given a considerable place to Corbett. Hervé Coutau-Bégarie has published for the first time in french Some Principles of Maritime Strategy. He has also published a book of naval diplomacy, strongly inspired by the ambassador, sir James Cable. Lastly, he has made an analysis of the backward movement of the british naval power after the Second War World, and showed how the Royal Navy do fit from this date in a new world opposite in the rule of his history from several centuries. |
