| Summary, etc. | Julien Freund, sociologue et penseur du conflit, se préoccupa du milieu des années 1970 au milieu des années 1980, d’une question sinon obsédante à tout le moins répétée dans son œuvre : la communauté scientifique de son temps disposerait d’une intelligence mathématiquement féconde des mécanismes conflictuels, organisateurs de toute vie en société, dont l’étude politologique et polémologique pourrait profiter. Une telle formalisation imposerait d’entrer dans une pensée singulière, sollicitant les contraintes morphologiques actives dans l’évolution des formes, afin d’en éclairer les fonctionnements. La générativité des formes sociales, quoique spécifique, ne serait pas soustraite aux découvertes du mathématicien René Thom et des implications soulevées par sa théorie des catastrophes. Notre contribution, en saluant l’ouverture d’esprit du polémologue, vise à rouvrir un dialogue interdisciplinaire demeuré en friche chez ce dernier, au moyen d’une exploration au cœur des mécanismes freundiens de la conflictualité, saisis dans leur opérativité morphologique. Un tel travail se situe au chiasme de deux interrogations : quelle est cette conceptualité freundienne du conflit qui, selon l’aveu même de ce dernier, ferait directement écho à la géométrie dynamique de Thom ? En retour, est-ce que la saisie des formes par leurs points de rupture et leur possibilité de métamorphose, produit une conception suffisamment dynamique de la polarisation conflictuelle, qui puisse mettre au ban tant la dialectique hégélienne, le dépassement marxiste, que la réprobation morale du libéralisme à l’étude sérieuse du conflit ? |

| Summary, etc. | Julien Freund, who is a sociologist and expert in conflict theories, dealt almost obsessively in the mid-seventies and mid-eighties, with a recurrent issue : could political science and polemology benefit from the great advances of the scientific community of his time in terms of mathematical intelligence related to conflictual mechanisms shaping social life ? Such theory implies a very specific way of thinking echoing morphogenesis in order to shed light on how forms work. The discoveries of the mathematician René Thom in his Catastroph Theory would have an impact on the understanding of social forms. Our work honours the open-mindedness of the polemologist, and we aim at renewing a multidisciplinary collaboration that he initiated, thanks to a research on the core mechanism of conflict from a morphological perspective. That study cross-examines two issues : What is the freundian way of seeing conflict that according to him, echoes Thom’s dynamic geometry in a straightforward way ? Is the understanding of form turning points and their changing possibilities could make something dynamic enough to question as well as the authority of the Hegelian dialectic, the Marxist concept of passing over contradictions, and the moral condemnation of liberalism on conflict expertise ? |
