| Summary, etc. | RésuméCertains patients insuffisants rénaux chroniques, traités par hémodialyse, développent une représentation particulière de ce traitement en l’amalgamant à une maladie. En partant des définitions de l’expérience de la maladie en lien avec les notions de « rupture biographique », de symptômes et d’exposition à la mortalité, nous avons étudié les raisons menant à un vécu de l’hémodialyse selon ces modalités. Il apparaît que le caractère asymptomatique de l’insuffisance rénale chronique et le manque de représentation liée à son diagnostic ne permettent pas la prise de conscience de la gravité de la maladie. A contrario, le traitement, par ses effets secondaires et par les représentations liées au corps qu’il suscite, expose le patient à sa vulnérabilité et à sa mortalité. Cet amalgame, s’il devient confusion, a des conséquences négatives pour les patients traités par hémodialyse mais aussi pour ceux traités, ensuite, par une transplantation rénale. |

| Summary, etc. | “Hemodialysis, this disease”: anthropological approach to an amalgamSome patients with chronic renal failure and put on hemodialysis associate this treatment to a disease. We show that “biographical disruption”, symptoms and exposure to mortality, which usually characterize the experience of chronic illness, fit to patients’ experience of hemodialysis. Chronic renal failure is generally asymptomatic: because no representation is associated to its diagnosis, patients are not aware of its severity. On the contrary, hemodialysis is constraining and has side effects that lead patients to develop particular representations of their body and expose them to their vulnerability and mortality. If this amalgam between the treatment and a disease turned into confusion, then this might have negatives consequences for those treated by hemodialysis, as well as for those treated, in a later stage, by renal transplantation. |

| Summary, etc. | ResumenAlgunos pacientes con insuficiencia renal crónica, sometidos a hemodiálisis, desarrollan una representación particular de este tratamiento amalgamándolo a una enfermedad. A partir de las definiciones de la experiencia de la enfermedad, relacionadas con las nociones de « ruptura biográfica », de síntomas y de exposición a la mortalidad, hemos estudiado los motivos que conducen a una experiencia de la hemodiálisis según esos modos. Parece que el carácter particular asintomático de la insuficiencia renal crónica y la falta de representaciones relacionada a su diagnóstico no permiten darse cuenta de la gravedad de la enfermedad. Al revés, el tratamiento, por sus obligaciones, sus efectos secundarios y por las representaciones vinculadas al cuerpo que despierta, expone al paciente a su vulnerabilidad y su mortalidad. Este amalgama, si se convierte en confusión, tiene consecuencias negativas para los pacientes sometidos a hemodiálisis sino también para los que luego, tendrán un transplante. |
