| Summary, etc. | La bonne conduite des opérations et la crédibilité des institutions militaires reposent sur la discipline des soldats, leur savoir-faire et leur volonté de se sacrifier, en somme, leur consentement à obéir, à tuer et à mourir. L’intégration de nouvelles valeurs chez un soldat ne doit pas être un processus accidentel. Ce processus doit aligner les valeurs avec les gestes commis et les rendre cohérentes. La thèse de cet article affirme que l’endoctrinement (ou l’éducation éthique) est un outil fondamental à la formation de l’esprit guerrier chez les militaires, et son application efficace les protège d’éventuelles blessures psychologiques. Ainsi, il y aurait un lien entre la dissonance cognitive, la perte de résilience et le développement de blessures de stress opérationnelles. Le texte expose où se situe l’endoctrinement dans le continuum du conditionnement, traite des trois questions existentielles du soldat et du processus d’endoctrinement. Enfin, il propose quelques outils pour faire assimiler le code de conduite aux membres des armes de combat dans une armée moderne issue d’une démocratie libérale. La théorie des modèles mentaux avancée par Kenneth Craik (Craik, 1943) et structurée par Philip Johnson-Laird (Johnson-Laird, 1983) sert de cadre conceptuel général. |

| Summary, etc. | The proper conduct of operations and the credibility of military institutions is founded on the soldiers’ discipline, their know-how and their willingness to sacrifice themselves. In short, it is founded on their consent to obey, kill and die. The appropriation of new values by a soldier should never be accidental. The process must align and render coherent values and actions. The thesis of this article suggests that indoctrination (or ethical education) is a fundamental tool in the making of a soldier’s warrior mindset, and its efficient use will protect them from eventual psychological injuries. Therefore, it is posited that there is a link between cognitive dissonance, loss of resilience and the development of operational stress injuries. This article frames indoctrination into the conditioning continuum, looks at the soldiers’ three existential questions and the indoctrination process. Finally, it proposes some tools to help assimilate a code of conduct by members of the combat arms of a modern army in a liberal democracy. The theory of mental models developed by Kenneth Craik (Craik, 1943) and structured by Philip Johnson-Laird (Johnson-Laird, 1983) is used as a conceptual framework. |
