| Summary, etc. | Ce travail s’intéresse à la genèse des stratégies maritimes chinoises de déni d’accès, souvent nommées A2/AD en Occident. Largement basé sur des sources chinoises, il explore à partir du cas de Taïwan comment le Parti communiste chinois (PCC) a formulé sa stratégie maritime, puis s’est donné les moyens depuis 1950 de repousser les puissances militaires étrangères à partir des côtes chinoises et vers le large. Dynamique exemplifiée dans le détroit de Taïwan, le déni d’accès constitue le fruit d’un rapport de force historique entre une Chine en quête de profondeur stratégique et ses rivaux, dans le but de se ménager un meilleur accès à l’océan. En effet, du point de vue de générations de stratèges chinois, pas d’extension maritime chinoise pérenne sans l’annulation de l’imposant talon d’Achilles taïwanais. Les actuels coups de butoirs chinois contre Taïwan constituent la dernière étape de ce mouvement sur la longue durée. |

| Summary, etc. | This paper explores the development from 1949 to the present day of the People’s Republic of China’s (PRC) access-denial strategy, often referred to as A2/AD in the West, and the central place of Taiwan in this decades-long movement towards the sea. Access-denial, which form and scope have gradually evolved in response to changes in the balance of power between China and its maritime rivals, is the direct product of China’s historical quest for maritime security through the extension of its strategic depth and exclusion of foreign military powers from its maritime vicinities. However, from the vantage point of generations of Chinese strategists, such unhindered access to the ocean has continuously required to take control of the pivotal island of Taiwan. China’s fast-paced military modernization and mounting strategic challenge against Taiwan constitute the latest stage of this longue durée process. |
