À la suite d’une série d’attentats sur l’ensemble du territoire algérien le 1er novembre 1954, la France connaît un climat de guerre civile. Ne souhaitant pas débattre d’une indépendance de sa colonie, le gouvernement minimise les « événements d’Algérie » et muselle la presse. Pour contourner la censure et sensibiliser l’opinion publique au conflit en cours, le Front de libération nationale algérien décide de créer une équipe de football destinée à devenir l’étendard de la cause algérienne. Au cours de ses quatre années d’existence, celle-ci met progressivement en lumière les tensions et dynamiques inhérentes à la guerre d’Algérie, tant sur le plan national qu’international, au point d’en devenir un véritable reflet.

Since the outbreak of a series of attacks throughout the Algerian territory on the 1st of November 1954, an atmosphere of civil war was underway in France. Wishing not to debate the independence of its colony, the government minimized the “events of Algeria” and muzzled the press. In order to circumvent censorship and raise awareness on the current conflict among the public opinion, the National Liberation Front of Algeria decided to create a football team destined to become the spearhead of the Algerian cause. During its four years of existence, it gradually highlighted the tensions and dynamics inherent to the Algerian War on both a national and global level and became a real reflection of this conflict.
