RÉSUMÉ Cette étude originale s’appuyant sur les travaux de Roland Barthes tente de croiser une approche sémiologique des noms propres choisis par l’écrivain et poète Géo-Charles dans son œuvre primée au concours d’art des Jeux Olympiques de 1924 avec une analyse historique de l’événement auquel elle se réfère ; à savoir le match de légende Carpentier-Dempsey. Elle est l’occasion d’investir les méandres créatifs d’un artiste, sa sensibilité consciente ou inconsciente, plus encore de saisir les impressions de tout un peuple, voire même de tout un continent, d’esquisser la logique identitaire qui accompagne ce combat « mythique », de tenter d’appréhender l’explosion de l’engouement des foules pour le sport-spectacle lors de l’immédiate après-guerre et de la frénésie qui l’entoure.

The power of the proper names in the athletic fictional work of Geo-Charles awarded during the Olympic games of 1924 ABSTRACT This first study based on the works of Roland Barthes tries to mix the semiological approach of proper names chosen by the writer and poet Geo-Charles in his work which was awarded in the Olympics Arts Competition of 1924. It also includes a historical analyses of the event it refers to ; i.e. the legendary match of Carpentier vs. Dempsey. This study is the opportunity to invest the creative flow of an artist, his conscious or unconscious sensitivity of an entire nation, or even of a whole continent. And also the opportunity to draw the logical identity which accompanies the « mythical » combat and to attempt the explosion of the enthusiasm of the crowds for the sporting event during the period following aftermath, and the frenzy that surrounds it.
