RésuméDans Le piège (1945), Emmanuel Bove décrit un homme qui s’enferre progressivement dans ses propres pensées et ses démarches, comme en bute à une inexorable fatalité. Dans ce dernier roman, qui n’eut aucun succès à la Libération parce qu’on préférait alors une lecture plus héroïque de la Résistance, Bove a capté l’esprit ambigu de Vichy. Mais il l’avait anticipé, comme le montre sa production romanesque, prolixe entre 1928 et sa mort, en 1945 : ses personnages, qui se cherchent une place dans une société qui les rejette ou dont ils s’excluent, passent leur temps à échafauder des hypothèses vaines sur le pouvoir dont ils tentent de s’approcher, ce qui les conduit à leur perte. J’essaierai de lire cet auteur à la fois fascinant et insaisissable, dont la biographie est à elle seule un roman, dans la perspective de l’articulation du surmoi au surmoi culturel ( Kultur-überich ), proposée par Freud en 1930 dans Le malaise dans la civilisation.

In The Trap (1945), E. Bove describes a man who progressively spikes on his own thoughts and moves as if the victim of an inexorable fate. In his last novel which met with no success after the Liberation because then a more heroic reading of the Resistance was favored, Bove has caught the ambiguous spirit of Vichy. But he had anticipated it, as evidenced in his numerous novelistic productions between 1928 and his death in 1945: his characters who search for a place in society spend their time drafting vain hypotheses about the power they strive to approach and which leads them to their loss. I will try to read this both fascinating and elusive author whose biography itself is a novel, through the articulation of the super ego to the cultural super ego (Kultur-überich), as proposed by Freud in 1930 in Civilization and its Discontent.
