Bien plus, la renaissance lyrique qui marque le début du xixe siècle l’intériorise à un second niveau : cette notion d’intérieur permet la représentation métaphorique d’un espace nouveau, celui de la subjectivité romantique. Suivant une physiologie toute musicale, les poètes situent l’intériorité dans le cœur instrumental, de sorte qu’en émane un « chant intérieur ». La césure revendiquée avec l’Histoire et la violence qui lui est inhérente vise à protéger ce lieu réservé à soi. Cependant, oscillant entre fermeture et clôture, il est par définition poreux, ce qui l’expose à une menace permanente d’altération ou même de dissolution.

Whatever can be said to be “inside” defines a closed space dedicated to the individual. This space becomes a second body, one that hides social space and welcomes the ritual of writing. There is more : the rebirth of lyricism, which characterises the beginning of the 19th century, interiorises the interior again as it were, at a second level : the notion of an “inner” “interior” enables the metaphorical representation of a new space, that of romantic subjectivity. Adhering in this to a completely musical physiology, the poets locate interiority at the heart of the instrument, so that from it emanates an “inner song”. The rupture thus vindicated with History and the violence inherent to it aims at protecting this space as the preserve of the self. However, oscillating between closure and openness, it is porous by definition, which exposes it to the permanent threat of change or even dissolution.
