La signature à Pékin, le 10 mars 2023, d’un accord de réconciliation entre l’Arabie saoudite et l’Iran constitue un tournant majeur dans les relations entre les deux pays. Cette réconciliation pourrait provoquer un bouleversement significatif de la donne régionale, voire donner lieu à une nouvelle configuration géopolitique. Toutefois, des interrogations subsistent concernant l’accord, signé sous l’égide de la Chine, notamment concernant ses motifs réels, ses termes ou encore sa capacité à dissiper tous les points de friction entre Riyad et Téhéran. Dans ce cadre, il convient d’analyser le contexte géopolitique et de mettre en lumière les facteurs qui ont permis ce rapprochement afin d’examiner cette nouvelle configuration régionale.

Saudi Arabia and Iran signing a reconciliation agreement in Beijing in March 2023 marks a major turning point in the relations between the two countries. This could induce a substantial disruption in the regional order and even lead to a new geopolitical configuration. However, questions about the agreement – that was signed under the aegis of China – persist, especially regarding its terms, its true motives, and its ability to bridge all divides between Riyad and Tehran. This article aims to analyse the geopolitical context and shines a light on the factors that have led to this reconciliation in order to examine the new regional configuration.
