L’analyse du rituel des flûtes sacrées chez les Indiens Wauja du Haut-Xingu, Amazonie, soulève des questions importantes concernant la cosmologie, le chamanisme, la socialité et la musicalité de ce peuple. Dans cet article je vais commenter certaines caractéristiques du système musical de ce rituel, en particulier en ce qui concerne des motifs musicaux au cœur de ce répertoire. Ces petits motifs constituent l’épicentre de tout le rituel de flûtes Wauja. Dans ce niveau du très petit, on peut observer l’application de techniques très spécifiques de répétition et variation qui constituent la pensée musicale indigène, et que l’on retrouve au fondement de la cosmologie wauja.

Analysis of the sacred flute rituals of the Wauja Indians from the Upper-Xingu, Amazonia, raises important questions about their cosmology, shamanism, sociality and musicality. In this article I will review some of the characteristics of the musical system of this ritual, especially the musical motifs in the heart of this repertoire. These small motifs, constitute the epicenter of the entire Wauja sacred flutes ritual. At the level of this small unit, we can observe the application of specific techniques of repetition and variation that constitute Wauja musical thought, and which can be found at the basis of Wauja cosmology.
