Background French clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and management of Crohn’s disease is needed due to the evolving medical and surgical management of the disease. Methods On behalf of the French Study Group for Therapies for Inflammatory Disorders of the Digestive Tract (Groupe d’Etudes Therapeutiques des Affections Inflammatoires du Tube Digestif, GETAID), French clinical guidelines were updated via a validated process involving adapting clinical guidelines from international gastroenterology societies and French consensus meetings. Results French clinical guidelines for the diagnosis and management of Crohn’s disease were drafted by 17 GETAID members and reviewed by 7 IBD experts, including GETAID members and members of the French National Association of Hepato-gastroenterologists (Association Nationale des Hépato-gastroentérologues des Hôpitaux généraux, ANGH) and of the French Think Tank for Hepato-gastroenterology Practices and Groups (Club de Réflexion des Cabinets et Groupes d’Hépato-Gastroentérologie, CREGG). The guidelines were graded according to the level of evidence and the level of agreement by 31 experts from these three societies. The guidelines focused on definition, scoring systems, induction and maintenance treatment, post-operative treatment, and management of complicated Crohn’s behavior. Conclusion This paper provides useful guidelines to help French gastroenterologists diagnose and treat patients with Crohn’s disease.
