By introducing the experiential knowledge of service users into the French legal definition of social work, decree no. 2017-877 of May 6, 2017 on the definition of social work is reshaping social action by integrating the experiential knowledge of people receiving social support into the formulation of responses to their needs. Rooted in the day-to-day lives of people with multiple disabilities, this experiential knowledge now appears to be an integral part of academic knowledge in the human and social sciences, as well as the practical and theoretical knowledge of social work professionals, not only for training students and perfecting their professional practices, but also for adapting social work training to the ever-changing realities of society.

En introduisant les savoirs expérientiels des personnes accompagnées dans la définition du travail social, le décret n° 2017-877 du 6 mai 2017, relatif à la définition du travail social, refonde l’action sociale tandis qu’il associe les savoirs expérientiels des personnes bénéficiant d’un accompagnement social à la construction des réponses à leurs besoins. Enracinés dans le quotidien de la personne en situation de polyhandicap, ses savoirs expérientiels apparaissent désormais indispensables aux savoirs universitaires en sciences humaines et sociales ainsi qu’aux savoirs pratiques et théoriques des professionnels du travail social, certes pour former les étudiants et parfaire leurs pratiques professionnelles, mais également pour adapter la formation en travail social aux réalités sociétales en perpétuelle évolution.
