The paper examines, from a psychoanalytical point of view, the works of Elsa and Johanna, two photographers who create visual narratives in which they play the central role. It highlights the impossible relation between a body and the representation of a person caught up in social discourse, as Johanna demonstrates in her interview with Joy Séror. Gender is grasped through the notion of the imaginary, the better to interrogate our “alternate” gender.

Cet article propose un regard psychanalytique sur l’œuvre d’Elsa & Johanna, artistes photographes mettant en scène des récits dont elles sont les interprètes. À partir de leurs tableaux, Walter Gerbin vient souligner la correspondance – ou l’impossible rapport – entre l’image du corps et la représentation du sujet pris dans le discours social tel qu’évoqué par Johanna. Cet article se donne pour but d’appréhender le genre à partir de la notion d’imaginaire afin de questionner au plus près notre « autre » du genre.
