Philippe Pelletier geographer has long been interested in the relationship between nature and society and seeing the declassification of geography in favor of ecology he sought to understand the reasons for this evolution and to do so he returned to the origins of ecology.German intellectuals played a central role in this development, emphasizing the role of nature in the organization of societies. Several factors explain it, including the legacy of Protestantism, which has a direct relationship between the individual who believes and «nature» creation of God; religion which also reorganises politics This concept did not have the same success in France due to republicanism and secularism. But the French geographers who proposed another approach to the nature/society interface have not succeeded in imposing it. According to the author, the creation of the IPCC (1988) is in line with two key moments of global environmental governance: the Meadows Report (1972), with its sponsor, the oligarchic, scientist and politico-diplomatic Club de Rome (1968), which addresses climate issues but briefly and incorrectly; and the Brundtland Report (1987) on policy-driven sustainable development.
