In March 2022, the international conference of the University Research Group on Water Treatment and Purification Techniques (GRUTTEE) was held in Toulouse on the theme of sustainable water management. The congress, traditionally composed of researchers from the engineering sciences such as chemistry or process engineering, opened its doors for the first time to the humanities and social sciences (SHS) through the organization of a dedicated session. This article offers a critical and reflective analysis of the contributions of this session, to initiate an interdisciplinary dialogue. It analyses two interdisciplinary processes. The first one in the SHS field. The second between SHS and engineering sciences. Between disciplinary taming and points of convergence, this article describes the complexity of interdisciplinary construction.
