À partir de l’histoire du personnage littéraire d’Antigone qui révèle que ses désirs les plus profonds sont conditionnés par la configuration complexe de ses liens de parenté et par les mots qui l’ont entouré, l’auteur ouvre un questionnement sur ce qui fait tenir la notion même de genre : une polarité, une aspiration profonde, un tropisme, une attraction contre laquelle nulle loi publique ne peut lutter. Figure politique toujours actuelle, symbole de l’espoir en l’humain, Antigone promeut cette idée selon laquelle toute violence à l’égard des faibles, des étrangers ou des morts est violence commise à l’égard des vivants.

Memory, Gender, Identity and the Social Bond. The Meaning of Antigone’s Clamour. This article explores the literary character of Antigone and the way in which what happens to her reveals how deeply our desires are conditioned by the complex configuration of our parental bonds and the language which forged them. This in turn allows us to examine what lies at the basis of the notion of gender, from polarity to deeply rooted aspiration, from tropism or force of attraction against which public law is powerless. Antigone is a political figure of great relevance today and a symbol of human hope. She embodies the idea that acts of violence committed against the weak, outsiders and the dead are also acts of violence leveled against the living.
