La ville de New York a souffert le 11 septembre 2001 d’une attaque terroriste qui a détruit le World Trade Center en entraînant la mort de 2870 personnes. Les modalités de soutien aux victimes, la recherche de symboles et l’organisation des soins psychiques manifestent combien l’action en groupe a permis de faire face au choc sans fuir dans le déni. Les réactions d’enfants reçus en consultation montrent la variété clinique des réponses au trauma, et l’importance de l’impact traumatique de la rencontre entre l’événement tragique et les fantasmes.

On September 11,2001, New York City suffered a terrorist attack that destroyed the World Trade Centre and killed 2870 people. The way to organize how to help and hold the victims, the search for symbol and the mental health care organization show how the collective activity helped to stand the stress without the denial as a defence. The children’reactions were very different, showing the large possibility to react to a trauma, and the traumatic consequence of the meeting between the tragedy and the fantasies.
