Au-delà des discours consensuels, l’omniprésence de la déformation sera interrogée selon ses deux registres plastique et analytique. Si le premier vise le dévoilement des forces agitant la matière vivante perceptibles dans les sensations affectant la chair, le deuxième concerne le reflet distordu de l’image réfléchie interrogeant le miroir dont il est issu. Miroirs déformants qui conduisent vers celui, singulier, de Bacon révélant une identité aux prises avec le mouvement de l’informe.

Man as Deformed in the Work of Bacon The body of man is presented here in one of its most singular incarnations, that of bodily deformation in the work of Bacon. Over and beyond consensual discourse, the omnipresence of deformation is explored from both the plastic and analytical perspective. While the former aims to unveil the forces at work in living material, perceptible in the sensations alive in our living flesh, the latter concerns the distorted reflection of the image undermining the integrity of the mirror. It is a distorting, disfiguring entity which gives birth to Bacon’s own highly individual reflection, embodying an identity grappling with such forces as the shifting movement of shapelessness.
