The use of oral antiseptics, in the form of toothpaste or mouthwash, can modify the oral flora. It is important to understand the effects of these antiseptics on the ecology of the oral biofilm - and on health in general. These changes can be induced by both therapeutic and preventive applications. The effects can be seen in the oral cavity, the respiratory system and in the devices used during treatment, particularly orthodontic treatment.

L’utilisation des antiseptiques oraux, sous forme de dentifrice ou de bain de bouche, peut modifier la flore orale. Il importe de connaître les effets de ces antiseptiques sur l’écologie du biofilm oral – et sur la santé en général. Ces modifications sont susceptibles d’être induites à la suite d’applications tant thérapeutiques que préventives. Les effets peuvent en être perçus à l’échelle de la cavité orale, du système respiratoire ou encore au niveau des dispositifs utilisés lors des traitements notamment les traitements orthodontiques.
