We intend to describe in this article how in a very short time the French community in Algeria was totally excluded from a country that it considered as its fatherland, an event that nobody seems to have previously imagined. Those as to be unable to understand this story will not understand it anymore after reading the present lines. It is the historian’s destiny to write to nobody.

Cet article vise à expliquer comment en un temps très court la communauté française d’Algérie fut totalement exclue d’un pays qu’elle considérait comme sa patrie, événement que personne ne semblait avoir imaginé qu’il fût possible. Ceux qui n’ont rien compris à cette histoire ne la comprendront pas davantage quand ils auront lu ces lignes. C’est le destin de l’historien que de n’écrire pour personne.
