‪Nurse anesthetists are characterized by a high degree of clinical autonomy and a close working relationship with anesthesiologists. Using biographical narratives, observations and a questionnaire, this article examines the sociogenesis of their technical dispositions and their sense of assurance vis-à-vis doctors. More specifically, it investigates their social properties and trajectories as soon as they leave nursing school. Their frequent career start in intensive care represents a socially differentiated cognitive investment. It reinforces the incorporation of a series of dispositions and nourishes a feeling of wear and tear linked to the conditions of practice, as well as frustrations linked to the limits of nursing status. At the end of this period, they start a new curriculum to become nurse anesthetists. It completes a triple reclassification of status‪‪ – ‪‪clinical, material and symbolic‪‪ ‪‪–‪‪ ‪‪which confirms the singular place of this nursing sub-group‪

Les infirmières anesthésistes se distinguent par une importante autonomie clinique et un binôme étroit avec les médecins anesthésistes. Mobilisant récits biographiques, observations et un questionnaire, cet article interroge la sociogenèse de leurs dispositions techniques et de leur sentiment d’assurance vis-à-vis des médecins. Il investigue plus spécifiquement leurs propriétés sociales et trajectoires dès la sortie des études en soins infirmiers. Leur fréquent début de carrière en réanimation constitue un investissement cognitif, socialement différencié. Il renforce l’incorporation d’une série de dispositions et nourrit un sentiment d’usure lié aux conditions d’exercice et des frustrations tenant aux limites du statut infirmier. La reprise de formation comme infirmière anesthésiste parachève un triple reclassement statutaire – clinique, matériel et symbolique – qui consacre la place singulière de ce sous-groupe infirmier.
